the epitaph project: portable tombstone/chalkboard, a 2'
x 3' x 1/2" slate, was shown at Spaces in 2002 with a hand
hooked silk rug, 6' x 3', serving as a surrogate grassy grave plot.
Here, as epitaphs were photographed they were added to the wall
which already held the epitaph project: archive, 99 4"
x 5" digital black and white prints. In this way the exhibition
grew through the interaction of the public with both the gallery
and the cemetery. Visitors were directed to visit the grave at Lake
View cemetery not far away, thus linking the sites, nature to culture
and back.
